Optimise For Local Search

When you want to optimise your business locally for SEO, it’s different than trying to target a worldwide audience; sure it may be easier to implement a marketing plan, but is still brings with it its own challenges and pitfalls (if you’re not careful).

Optimizing for local search, with regards to SEO is a complete subject on its own and something that we offer here at ANCHOVY. with our services but here are a few tips to get you going:

Include your location in your content:

Whenever you are writing your content on your blog, it’s a good idea to mention your location when appropriate as to signal to both search engines and customers clearly where your location is.

Also, including your physical address and a Google Map on your website is a strong signal to search engines that you have a presence in a certain locality.

Add locally-relevant images:

If you are targeting a specific area with your marketing, then it’s wise to include images that are related to where you are targeting.

For example; if your business wants to target customers in “London”, it makes sense to use images that represent London, rather than say; Dubai.

While this may not give you direct SEO power, it will lead to customers knowing exactly what your services are, what you are offering and where you are based, thus helping in the whole conversion process.

Try to include your location in the META:

Whenever optimizing your site for SEO using plugins such as YOAST, try to include your location in the meta of the title, the page description and even in the focus keyword if possible.

Please note the “if possible” – you do not want to force the keyword in there without it making sense as that could lead to a bad UX experience and may also trigger a keyword stuffing penalty.
